USGBC-Savannah Chapter: Green Building Discussion
When: Tuesday, February 27, 2007
5:45 -7:00 PM
Location: Wild Wing Café (2nd Floor) - City Market
(Corner of Congress and Barnard St)
Green buildings don’t cost more to construct, and the Chief Engineer of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be in Savannah on February 27th to share what the state has learned about high-performance buildings.
David Freedman, Chief Engineer of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, will discuss the DNR’s green building program, which currently ranks first in the nation among state agencies with the number of LEED certified buildings. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) recognition, given by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the internationally recognized gold standard for high performance, low water and energy use buildings. The state buildings range from state park visitors centers to a golf course clubhouse. The Georgia DNR has been able to cost effectively design and construct LEED certified buildings and is a prime example for other building owners to follow in order to achieve multiple LEED building certifications. Freedman will discuss the DNR program as well as the financial, environmental, and political benefits that have been derived.
Please extend this invitation to anyone else that you feel may be interested in joining us for the evening.
